About
Independent protein bar reviews. Every bar bought at retail.
Top Protein Bar exists because protein bar marketing is louder than protein bar quality. We buy every bar we review at retail, with no free samples and no scores for sale, and score it on a fixed four-pillar system.
The four pillars (each scored 1–10)
1. Macro Profile. Protein-to-calorie ratio, sugar and carb quality, and whether the fats come from real food or cheap oils.
2. Taste & Flavor Accuracy. Does a birthday cake bar taste like cake or like sweet chemicals? Aftertaste and sweetness balance included.
3. Texture & Mouthfeel. The jaw-workout factor, dryness, and whether coatings melt or flake off.
4. Ingredients & Digestibility. Protein source quality, GI comfort (looking at you, maltitol), and how recognizable the ingredient list is.
The overall score is the straight average of the four. 9.0+ earns Top Pick, 7.5–8.9 is Recommended, 6.0–7.4 gets a Caution, and below 6.0 we tell you to avoid it.
